SAT Preparation


Planning to take your SAT?

Follow our 7-step guide to successfully complete your SAT test.


1- Register for the SAT

If you haven’t already registered for the SAT, you can register at the College Board website. You will need to create an account with them and then you can register for an SAT test if you haven’t already.

You’ll be able to select from different locations and dates. For now there are only anticipated dates.

Try to pick a location that’s not too far away, since you’ll have to drive there the morning of the test!

In terms of date, you want to make sure you give yourself enough time to prepare.

2- Get Oriented to the Overall Structure and Format of the SAT

The SAT is out of 1600 points distributed into two chunks: 800 points for the Math section, and 800 points for Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (made up of a Reading test and a Writing test). The lowest possible score is 400 points (200 on each section).

3- Become Familiar with the Content of the SAT

 The four sections of the SAT test different areas of your knowledge and skills. Additionally, the SAT has a particular style of asking questions that you’ll want to become comfortable with.  

How to prepare for SAT math will be different than how to prepare for SAT reading, which will be different than how to prepare for SAT writing!

 4- Determine Your Strengths and Weaknesses

Skillz invites you to take a timed practice test. Once you have completed our timed practice test, you’ll want to figure out your strengths and weaknesses and set a starting point for yourself. 

Once you’ve taken the practice test, you can schedule an interactive review session with our teachers to analyze your answers in order to give you maximum support.


5- Set a Score Goal

Once you have an idea of your baseline, set a goal score! You’ll want it to be something you can realistically accomplish in the time frame you have for preparing for the SAT.

A 140-point improvement from your baseline in a month is guaranteed in our 26-hours SAT preparation training; a 300-point improvement needs you to put in more time and effort.


6- Make a Study Schedule

Based on your goal score and your time before the test; you will want to make a study schedule for yourself. 

By sticking to consistent, scheduled times studying will become a habit. And make sure somebody else is assisting you in your study schedule so they can hold you accountable!

7- Join Skillz’ online test preparation class
